Alia Ever since she made her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012, Alia Bhatt has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with. Not only has she made waves with her acting skills, but with her sartorial picks too. Sure, she loves designer ensembles, but the actor never shies away from experimenting with new labels.
Here, we take you through five Indian and international brands that are a mainstay in Alia Bhatt’s wardrobe, and have left us wanting more in 2020.
Alia Bhatt’s love affair with Sabyasachi ensembles is an old one. A quick look at her style file and you’ll know that while she may love her mini dresses and tracksuits, when it comes to traditional wear, the 27-year-old turns to Mukherjee’s work for statement looks. Each time the designer drops a new collection on Instagram, you can expect the young star to be wearing one of the pieces in the upcoming weeks. Over the years, we’ve seen her at weddings in heavily embroidered lehengas, attending events in statement saris and kurtas.
Time and again, Amrita Khanna and Gursi Singh’s label Lovebirds has won Alia Bhatt’s vote of approval. The New Delhi-based brand is known for their minimal tailored ensembles and has made it to multiple celebrities’ wardrobes. Those who follow Bhatt’s off-duty style closely will be aware that more often than not the actor is seen in their creations while catching flights. Case in point: she recently made headlines in a pastel blue cotton dress, whereas on the other occasion she was spotted acing a beige co-ord set in Mumbai.
The New York based designer is known for his statement-making separates, gowns and dresses highlighting ultra-feminine details like ruching, cut-outs and a contemporary colour palette. Over the years, Gurung has won the vote of many Bollywood celebrities such as Janhvi Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is no stranger. For Kapoor family’s annual Christmas lunch in 2019, the actor arrived in an asymmetric dress by the designer that featured flared sleeves, an asymmetric cut-out on its side, and a side slit. The 27-year-old star is not just a fan of his statement dresses, recently she also turned heads in a printed blazer and pants set for an event in Mumbai.
Blame it on their winning silhouettes or the playful prints, Silvia Tcherassi’s creations always make it to Alia Bhatt’s closet. It was in 2018 when the star stepped out in a velvet blue dress by Silvia Tcherassi for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s 20 years celebrations and since then there’s been no stopping. Another standout outfit was the red and white striped shirtdress that she wore for the screening of India’s Most Wanted in Mumbai.
Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika who is known for his signature draped gowns with dramatic detailing has been a recurring favourite of Bhatt’s on the redcarpet. Some of her most stunning looks include the pink and yellow off-shoulder gown she wore for the 65th Filmfare Awards that came with a thigh-high split and a dramatic cape sleeve. Another solid ensemble was the nude off-shoulder piece she picked for IIFA 2020.
