How Upon the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country was united for the #9pm9minutes initiative on April 5, 2020. While we remain under a lockdown, the idea was for a symbolic coming together of the community in the fight to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Many homes across the nation turned off lights and lit diyas, candles and even phone flashlights as a sign of solidarity in these trying times. Among the many to join in across the country were some of Bollywood’s favourite celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Karisma Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and many others. Here’s a look at how the stars showed their support.
How Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh supported the initiative
One of the first posts that popped up on our social media feeds was that of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, seen lighting diyas with their pet dog, Dude. Sharma captioned the picture, “For many days since the turn of the recent events across the world, I have prayed to God to end the suffering of so many who are losing their lives without their families beside them, for the less-fortunate and the needy whose lives have turned upside down completely, for all the healthcare professionals who are working tirelessly & bravely to protect the lives of other beings, for those who are uncertain about their jobs and future.” She went on to write, “So tonight, I prayed extra for everyone and I lit diyas with the whole of India and we all prayed for each other. Prayers never go in vain.”
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh also took their their Instagram pages to share a shot of them as they stood in their balcony. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with their daughter, Araadhya Bachchan, lit diyas in the temple at their home.
